In America, the early performances of Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the child prodigy category. But for a person of Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and a loving family, those were not innate traits. Maureen arrived in this nurturing haven, August 17, 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion in "The Shamrock Rovers," famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons made up this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and loved rough games. Her passion and her gift for performing was remarkable. This was demonstrated by her receiving nearly every Feis award for drama or theatrical performing her country offered. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theater and singing.
